Request made by indicted driver after fatal DUI crash denied

A 25-year-old man from Orland Park, Illinois, was charged with reckless homicide after a crash that took the life of a woman who was traveling to work. The man recently made a request to a Cook County judge to return personal property that was in the vehicle involved in the crash but that request was denied, pending the completion of the investigation.

In addition to the reckless homicide charge, the man was accused of drinking and driving, which was reportedly a direct cause in the car accident. The crash occurred on July 8 on LaGrange Road where the 25-year-old male was traveling south in a Ford F150. According to the authorities, the man told police that he was driving back to Orland Park from a night of drinking in Chicago.

A 51-year-old woman was on her way to work at Advocate Christ Medical Center from her home in Lockport, Illinois, when she became involved in the crash. According to reports, the 25-year-old drove through a red light at the intersection of LaGrange Road and 95th Street and struck the woman. Fellow employees at the Advocate Christ Medical Center later declared her dead.

The man was recently indicted on one count of reckless homicide and more than a dozen counts of aggravated DUI. He is currently being held in custody with a bail set at $1 million.

On the same day that he was indicted, an attorney representing the defendant made a request to have personal property from the involved vehicle returned to his parents. The judge said that, as long as it was not an emergency, that property would not be returned. No details on the property were reported.

Representatives from the man's insurance company will be allowed to examine the vehicle to determine the costs of the crash. Insurance agents will have to review the vehicle at a time that is convenient for police and they may not interfere with the investigation.
