Injured drunk driver charged in fatal Cicero crash

Charges have been filed against the driver responsible for a fatal accident in Cicero in late January. The car accident occurred after an evening of reckless driving around Chicago with several others in the car. Reports from a passenger in the vehicle and evidence found in the vehicle after the crash indicate the driver was drinking hard liquor throughout the night.

The accident occurred early in the morning after the driver had been drinking and driving for hours. In the moments before the crash, the car was reportedly moving at a speed of 78 miles per hour. It is unclear exactly what happened when the crash occurred, but the accident appears to have been severe as a report states that officials had to extricate several passengers from the vehicle which had caught on fire.

One passenger died at the scene of the accident. The driver and a backseat passenger were seriously injured in the crash, and the driver spent several weeks recovering in the hospital, which is why charges were not filed immediately after the crash.

According to the Cicero police, the driver faces charges of "reckless homicide, aggravated DUI involving death and aggravated DUI involving great bodily harm." At the time of the crash, the driver's blood alcohol content was reportedly about three times the legal limit and he had cocaine in his body.

The backseat passenger who was seriously injured told police that she asked the driver to stop driving recklessly at one point and later on asked to be let out of the vehicle. The driver allegedly refused both of her requests.

Because of this driver's reckless behavior, one woman was killed and another is seriously injured. While this driver already faces charges for his actions that night, the injured woman or family of the woman who was killed may want to consider filing a claim against the driver. Seeking compensation for pain and suffering, lost wages, or medical costs incurred in the crash could be very beneficial.
