For most families, having a new baby is a joyous experience that isn't easily compared to any other experience. Tragically, there are some births that have a dark shadow surrounding them because of events that occurred during or after the birth. One lawsuit that was filed in the Cook County Circuit Court shows just how tragic a birth story can turn.
The lawsuit was filed in regards to an incident that occurred in May of 2012. It alleges that a woman who was 35 weeks pregnant went to the defendants named in the lawsuit with complaints of a severe headache, abdominal pain, vomiting and chest pain. The following day, the woman was taken into surgery for a Caesarean delivery. At that time, it is alleged that the woman didn't receive the proper medications to control her blood pressure, which ultimately led to her demise.
The lawsuit, which was filed by an administrator of the woman's estate, names Bush and Associates Ltd., registered nurse Therese O'Brien, Silver Cross Hospital and Medical Centers and Dr. Maureen S. Mietelski as the defendants. Others are also included as respondents in discovery.
This family has to deal with the tragic loss of this woman. The child that was born that day will have to grow up without a mother. Because of this woman's wrongful death, the lawsuit is seeking more than $50,000 in damages.
Any family that has lost a loved one due to medical malpractice or hospital negligence might have the right to do as this woman did and seek compensation. While any compensation awarded won't bring a loved one back, it can help to lessen the impact the final expenses and other expenses have on the family members who are left behind.
